Each community is characterized by ethos and values that are directly related to the history, population, and culture of the people who make up the community. Community projects are collective actions taken by engaged and interested community members who promote community ethos and values. However, not all community members or citizens are aware of many of the community projects in different areas, neighbourhoods, and cities. Video interviews on different community projects are a way to promote the community’s work and the values and ethos they represent through their daily offer to the community.

Successful communities share their knowledge and information on community projects and develop actions to strengthen the ethos and values of a community by focusing on social contact and cooperation between citizens, experts, and local authorities.

Community ethos and values are important elements for community building and the social cohesion of a community. Video interviews and video presentations for community projects draw more attention to a project offering important services to the community and highlight the importance of its ethos and values.

Your task as a front-line community worker is to create a video interview for a community project, e.g., a community garden collective, in your neighbourhood, area or city. The video interview should promote the services offered by the community project and describe how the project represents and promotes community ethos and values.

Your end goal is to create a video interview where the representatives of a community project of your choice, will share their stories and opinions on their project highlighting the community ethos and values promoted by their project.

Process

In the resources section under documents there are detailed instructions on how to create a video interview. You can also find valuable directions and tips with a step by a step approach provided in the video section.

Remember as someone who works in the frontline as a community worker, you will need to use your IT and mobile technology skills to record the video. You will need to use your creativity and communication skills to cooperate with the representatives of the community project in the interview, and you will use your analytical thinking skills to create questions and bring forward projects, places and people promoting community ethos and values.
